The Highly Engaged Classroom by Robert Marzano

I have been meaning to post the last few days about a Professional Development our district had on Monday, July 18th. We had the privilege to have Dr. Tammy Heflebower, Vice President, and Ken Williams, Associate to the Marzano Research Laboratory come and present the main ideas about the book The Hightly Engaged Classroom. You can find the presentation information at Marzano Research Laboratory under The Highly Engaged Classroom, Raytown, MO - Presented by Tammy Heflebower. After reading the text and before going to the PD, I only had a few Aha! moments but after attending the PD I had many, many more. There is a lot of great information within the book to use in your classroom to make sure we are truly engaging our students. We not only want them to be compliant but we always want to strive to have them Highly Engaged!

I LOVE U

I saw this super cute idea over at What the Teacher Wants. I am going to use it in my classroom to remind my students everyday that someone loves them! Thanks for sharing!!!

I recently saw this linky party over at Go 4th with Mrs. Owens and I wanted to join! I am pretty new to this whole blog thing, so bare with me!

10 Things about Me!
  • I love, love, love polka dots!
  • I could live off of Mountain Dew, Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips and fruit snacks.
  • I am a short 4’11” teacher while my husband is a tall 6’1” computer nerd, teehee!
  • I love to learn and read; my favorite non-educational author is Jodi Picoult.
  • I secretly speed sometimes just to feel the rush. :o) Oppsies!
  • My favorite color is pink.
  • I LOVE anything that is a dollar!
  • I have no biological children, but yet I have a handful from August until July!
  • I am obsessed with True Crime shows and watch Investigation Discovery religiously!
  • I live for bare feet and flip flops.

Back to School Night

I plan to stock some blogs today, looking for ideas on back to school night! I am not even sure what it will look like or what I am supposed to do! I am sure as time gets closer someone will inform me, right?! I would like to have a little handout/brochure and some sort of candy/goody bag. What do you do for your back to school night?

Hello and short Introduction!

Hello! Thanks for stopping and checking out my blog, pretty empty huh!? This is my very first go at a blog and I hope it is a fun and rewarding journey. I have been amazed at the amount of information that I have found on other teacher's blogs. Thank YOU for sharing with me and others. I truly appreciate all the advice and new information I have learned from all of you.

Let me introduce myself! I am Teresa and I will be a first year teacher for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year. I will be teaching special education; grades 3-5. I am excited, nervous, overwhelmed, determined, etc, etc, etc! I could go on and on with all of my extreme emotions. Luckily, I have been a Paraprofessional for the past 5 years in the same school district so I know several people and what is expected in our school district. I will not be in the same school though, which I am very thankful for! This school change will give me a boost into being a teacher and no longer being a Paraprofessional.

I look forward to getting to know other teachers on the web and begin sharing ideas!
